Choosing LU

Growing up with two older sisters who went to Liberty University, no one was surprised when I committed to Liberty my senior year of high school. To be fair, I did not end up at Liberty solely because of my family. I knew I wanted to attend a Christian university that would provide me with a biblically based education. I toured Messiah University and Cedarville University, but ultimately chose Liberty. I loved that it was a larger university, and the environment and community were very attractive to me. Between visiting my sisters, I probably visited Liberty 10 times before attending myself. By the time I moved into my Commons 2 dorm room, I already knew my way around campus.

Student Leadership

I immediately dove into student leadership. Within the first month of being at Liberty, I applied, interviewed, and was hired as a community group leader (CGL) on my hall. Later that year, I applied, interviewed, and was hired as a resident shepherd (RS) for the following year and was placed on the honors hall. Both of these positions were such a growing experience for me. As a CGL, I learned so much from the other CGLs I served alongside. As an RS, I have had the amazing opportunity to lead the CGLs on my hall. These two years on student leadership have been great, but I will not be returning as an RS for my senior year.

Academics

I am majoring in strategic communication with a minor in graphic design I am on track to compete the program in three years instead of four, making next year my senior year. In order to do this, I took AP and dual enrollment classes in high school. I also take 18 credits a semester and have taken a few online gen ed courses through affiliate programs such as Straighter Line and Sophia over the summer and winter break.

I also am taking a few extra graphic design courses to get more experience and instruction. Last semester I took a typography class and my final semester here I plan to take a publication design course. I joined the honors program my second semester here and am currently conducting research for my senior thesis. My thesis is on how strategy and creativity work together to create a comprehensive brand. Half of it will be research, and the second half will be a creative component building a comprehensive brand from the ground up.

College Life

When I’m not in classes, doing homework, or doing leadership things, I love getting off campus and exploring. I love to find new hikes along the Blue Ridge Mountains with friends. My favorite hike that I’ve done here is probably McAfee’s Knob. I enjoy the occasional day trip to Charlottesville or Roanoke. I also spend a lot of my Saturdays at various coffee shops around the Lynchburg area. I love going to cafes with friends to hang out or do homework. My favorite is The Muse. On campus, I enjoy going to football games, hockey games, and basketball games with friends.
